Principal's Report

From the very beginning of the development of Foxwell State Secondary College, we assured our students, parents and community that we would offer a World of Opportunity for the students attending our school.
I am proud to say that we are certainly delivering on this as we see our students getting involved in such broad range of learning activities and partnerships within their classes, their extra-curricular programs and in their interactions with their peers and teachers.

In the past two weeks I have been astounded by the opportunities available to our students, including, but not limited to:
    • G-Stem excursion to University of Queensland for our students to establish their partnership and project with their ‘big sister’ PhD mentor
    • The selection of our first Esports teams with 17 teams signing up
    • Drama Festival rehearsals
    • Visual Art Club
    • Interschool sport teams with students training hard in Futsal, Netball, Basketball, Rugby and other sports.
    • Students have participated in Swimming and Tennis trials.
    • Motivational teamwork session with the Gold Coast Suns
    • Instrumental Music rehearsals and the establishment of the Foxwell Instrumental Music Band
    • Genius Bar partnership with Apple and the training of our very own Genius Bar crew.

In reality the sky is the limit and there are opportunities for every student to get involved in an extra-curricular activity of their choice.  If your child hasn’t found their area of passion yet and hasn’t signed up for one of the great activities on offer, please encourage them to speak to one of the wonderful staff here at our school

Our Learning Partnerships with our parents is a priority for us at our school and we encourage all parents to stay actively involved and engaged in their child’s learning.  Research is clear that this active involvement in the secondary years of schooling will not only support their academic outcomes  but most importantly the social-emotional wellbeing of your child.  Don’t ever feel that they are getting too old for you to be their greatest learning partner. If you are unsure of how to be involved, please speak with your child’s teacher or another member of staff.  Together we will achieve more.

I am so proud of the true community that we have created here at Foxwell. I applaud the students, parents and staff for demonstrating our SPIRIT values in all that they do.  This week’s SPIRIT value of Perseverance has been evident as students work towards demonstrating their learnings through their assessment tasks and also in the way they are increasing in their self-understanding and commitment to being responsible and accountable for their own learning.  We acknowledge that this is a shift from primary education, but for the most part our students are demonstrating true grit, determination and a positive growth mindset.  The level of respect, trust and inclusivity being demonstrated in all areas of our school community has ensured that our students continue to flourish in a safe and supportive positive learning environment that we can all be proud of.

Saying No to Bullying is not something we do on just one day here at Foxwell State Secondary College.

Across every setting and in every interaction we stress the importance of kindness, inclusivity and respectful relationships.

On each assembly we focus on how we Stand Up Against Bullying and we provide our students with the awareness and skills to appropriately and respectfully interact with each other.

The Department of Education is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its employees, students and families, and is working to eliminate domestic and family violence in all of its forms.  Nobody should have to tolerate domestic or family violence. Those affected are encouraged and supported to seek help.  The Foxwell State Secondary College community also takes a firm stand on saying Not Now, Not Ever to Domestic and Family Violence.  Should any member of our local community need assistance in relation to Domestic or Family Violence, we have staff who can assist with referrals and support. Our school is proud to be more than just a school, we are community and we are proud.

    Until next week
