Assessment
At Foxwell State Secondary College assessment plays an important role in the teaching and learning cycle for staff and all students. Assessment enables teachers to gather evidence and make judgements about student achievement. At Foxwell State Secondary College, assessment allows:
- Teachers to use evidence about student’s knowledge, understanding and skills to inform their teaching and tailor their classroom approach to the specific needs of each individual student.
- Students to monitor their own learning, ask questions and use a range of strategies to decide what they know and can do, and how to use assessment information for new learning.
- Teachers to gather evidence of student learning so as to assess achievement against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
Teachers explain to students the nature of assessment for each subject, including explaining the type of assessment and the elements that are important in each assessment task. Students are provided with multiple opportunities throughout the teaching and learning cycle to gain feedback from their teachers through checkpoints and drafting. Tha majority of student assessment should be completed during class time, with access to the classroom teacher for support and scaffolding. Students should not need to spend copious amounts of time at home, working on assessment, if they have been engaged and productive during lesson time.
The following table outlines assessment due dates for the remainder of term 1.
- Final assessment items (including assignments) are due in each student’s final timetabled lesson of the week for that subject.
- Draft and checkpoint work are due as outlined by student’s classroom teachers, in line with the specific need of each individual.

If a student is absent on the day of assessment submission, please contact the school during the morning to confirm absence, outlining that the student has assessment due and that a message needs to be passed to the classroom teacher. Students will be required to submit their assessment, upon their return to school, during their next lesson.
From Term 2 we look forward to releasing a Teaching and Learning Calendar for all students and parents on SharePoint. This calendar will record all due dates for assessments, including check points and drafts. This calendar will be able to be synced with personal native calendars. Further information about how to access this will be released prior to the launch of the Teaching and Learning Calendar.
