Principal's Report

Kym_Amor_22_Jan_2020_Square.jpg

We understand that this is an anxious and confusing time, with lots of information and misinformation being distributed in relation to COVID-19. We thank you for your ongoing support, understanding and vigilance at this challenging time.
We will continue to distribute official information in a timely manner via the Schoolzine emails, our website and Facebook. If there was ever to be the rare occurrence of an emergency situation at our school we could also use text messaging.

I would like to publicly acknowledge our staff and students who have remained focused on their teaching and learning.

Our school is ready for any circumstance, whether that include a school closure or the continuation of teaching and learning.  At present we are treating our lessons and assessment as business as usual. Should we receive a direction from the Government to close, we are more than prepared to continue quality teaching and learning for all students.

I have included the official Ministerial Statement from our Premier.

Information regarding student attendance at school

Should I keep my healthy child home from school/childcare?

If your child is returning from any international travel, you should isolate them for 14 days from when they arrive in Australia.

If they come into close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 coronavirus (including close contact in the 24 hours before the person became unwell) they should be isolated for 14 days from the last contact.

If your child develops symptoms, immediately call your doctor for advice. The doctor will contact your public health authority.

If a public health authority has informed you your child is a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 coronavirus — even if they don’t have symptoms — they cannot attend school or childcare until the authority tells you it is safe for them to do so.

The risk to children and babies, and the role children play in transmitting COVID-19, is not yet clear. However, the rate of confirmed coronavirus cases among children compared to the broader population has so far been low.

The Australian Government Department of Health has more information for parents, schools and early childhood centres.

Should I keep my child home from school/childcare if they have recently returned from overseas?

School Sports

Yesterday our school received a directive from the Department of Education stating that a decision has been made to cancel, until further notice, the representative school sport program which includes district, regional, state, national, interstate and international competitions and that this decision is effective as of today. The stoppage also applies for interschool/ intraschool sports. This does not stop our school training and programs that support the development of our sporting students.

Positive School News

We continue to be proud of the way that the vast majority of our students interact with each other and treat each other with respect and kindness. We promote this on a daily basis and also when we speak with our students at assemblies and in class groups. We believe that our diversity is our strength and that together we can achieve so much.  Thank you for continuing to promote and model this kindness and respect at home.

It has been wonderful to observe the progress of a number of the Foxwell State Secondary College teams over the past weeks. Whether it be rehearsing for the Drama Festival or the Debating Competition, or training for the Esports or Futsal tournament, our students are demonstrating perseverance, respect and responsibility and most importantly, teamwork. Keep up the great work.  Remember if your child hasn’t yet signed up for a Term 1 or 2 Extra curricular program, please encourage them to do so.  These programs add so much to their Foxwell and schooling experience.

Until next week
