Deputy Principal Update - Yr 8 The Wonder Years
It is a busy time of term for both staff and students. Please ensure that you are reminding your child to keep up to date with the assessment due dates. Please check the Assessment Calendar further in the Newsletter.
If there are extenuating circumstances regarding assessment which makes your child unable to submit assessment on the due date, please speak with your child's teacher to start the application for extension process.
We are always proud to see the levels of persistence and integrity that students demonstrate regarding school work at this time of term. If your child appears to be struggling and would like additional support, please be reminded that WIN Time is available to support students both before school from 8am and after school from 3pm - Monday to Friday. This support is offered in the Learning Hub. The schedule of support is provided later in this newsletter.
The date is rapidly approaching for our 2022 Year 8 school camp and we are excitedly putting in place preparations and making arrangements with Camp Marantha. Alas, we will be making contact with some families next week regarding their child being at risk for camp attendance based on recent behaviour incidents.
In addition, next week we will advertise with you a combined Camp Information and Year 9, 2023 Information Evening, where we will introduce to you The Compass Years Program and provide some additional details about camp. We will also be available to answer any questions. Stay tuned for details!
One of our SPIRIT Values that we are working on with students is Responsibility. In particular our conversations have been focussing on taking responsibility for your own actions; encouraging students when they make poor behaviour choices to own their actions and accept the consequences. I have spoken to students and told them I would far rather they tell the truth from the beginning and show integrity and responsibility, than them lying, in the hope that I will not find out the truth. Although consequences are issued in line with the Student Code of Conduct, in all incidents, we take into consideration individual circumstances which includes whether or not a child has demonstrated responsibility and remorse for their actions and integrity when providing a statement. Taking responsibility for actions and showing respect and integrity throughout an investigation is considered in determining the most appropriate consequence for a child's inappropriate behaviour. We would appreciate your support in speaking with your child around the importance of taking responsibilty for their actions and acting with integrity.
We congratulate all students who have represented the College with pride throughout the Inter school sport season, which finished up on Tuesday.
