Deputy Principal's Update
Term 2 Timetables
It has been a great start to the term for the vast majority of our Year 7 students. They have settled into their new timetables, excited for a fresh round of Arts subjects and they have also moved into different Technologies strands.
So just some clarification - students in Year 7 and 8 are provided with the opportunity to experience all Arts subjects as part of their Social World course: Drama, Dance, Visual Art, Media and Music. Students complete these subjects on a rotational basis.
In addition, students in Years 7 and 8, during their subject of Technologies, also study strands on a rotational basis; Digital Technologies and Design Technologies - Design in Year 7 and 8 takes the form of Food Technologies, as well as Materials, which is a workshop based strand. Through Technologies, students also access the Economics and Business curriculum.
Unfortunately the rotational nature of The Arts and Technologies subjects in Years 7 and 8 makes it difficult for students to move between classes, so requested timetable changes are often declined. In these instances, we will continue to work with you in finding solutions/support for your child if they are not experiencing success in their current class.
When students select subjects for Year 9, they choose whether they wish to continue studies in The Arts, Technologies and Economics and Business.
Assemblies
Yesterday we commenced our fortnightly Year 7 assemblies. We introduced our Foxwell Mariner Award - which will acknowledge students who consistently demonstrate positive behaviours as outlined through our SPIRIT Values and three school rules.
Congratulations to our first four Foxwell Mariner Award recipents for 2023:
- Hamish Dalziel
- Annabelle Finch
- Sophia Devine
- Miles Bloomfield
Our Acting Principal, Mrs Steinhardt, addressed students reminding them of our high expectations focussing on the SPIRIT value of Respect; reminding students that following teacher instructions is imperative and that students who demonstrate defiance or refusal to follow teacher instructions will have a consequence applied. Special mention was also made to water-ballooon/bombs, explaining that these are prohibited items and that students found in possession, either filled or empty, will also have consequences applied. Please support us in ensuring that your child does not bring these items to school.
Out of bounds areas of the school, in particular the verandahs, were discussed, and it was reiterated that during lunch times no students should be on the verandahs unless seated in the Games room on Level 2 of E Block. Students were reminded of the importance of arriving to class on time. Students out of class without permission will be considered as truants and appropriate consequences will be applied.
Students were reminded that rules exist in society, as well as in school to promote good order and to maintain safety of all. Students who behave in a manner that places the good order and management of the school at risk, or act in a manner that poses a safety risk, will be held accountable for their actions and serious consequenes which could include, but not limited to suspension or exclusuon may be applied.
