Deputy Principal's Update
As we near the end another busy week at Foxwell, I am reminded that we are edging closer to some exciting events and celebrations for our Year 10 cohort. Over the next two weeks, students will be listening to presentations from our Heads of Department who will provide information about our course offerings for Year 11 and 12. This information, as well as the activitiies in which we are engaging in our Fusion classes, should encourage students to focus more deliberately on their future pathways and the decisions that they are making regarding their senior schooling. Please encourage your child to talk to you about their thoughts, questions, concerns and ideas - the more we all know, the better we can plan for the future. The role of Ms Lynn Davies, our Industry Liaison Officer, is not just limited to working with students. She is also available to meet with parents and discuss their child’s career aspirations. If you would like to arrange a meeting with Lynn, please do not hesitate to contact her via email at ldavi157@eq.edu.au. You can also encourage your child to see her in the Learning Hub, opposite the Administration Building.
Senior Schooling Information Night - 17 May 2023
All Year 10 students and their families are invited to attend our Senior Schooling Information Night, to be held directly after our Career Expo on Wednesday 17 May from 6.00pm. The purpose of this event is to provide students and families with details regarding key aspects of senior schooling including:
*Course selection in Year 11 and 12, developing a Secondary Education and Training Plan (SET-P) and attending a SET-P Meeting;
*Opportunities and pathways for study programs in senior schooling including how to gain a Queensland Certificate of Education, and working towards an ATAR or a flexible pathway approach (e.g. diploma, certificate and other vocational training courses);
*Support structures and opportunities beyond our school-based programs; and
*Prerequisites/requirements for entry into courses and programs in senior school.
It is vital that all students and families attend this event as the information shared is too important to miss or find out at a later date.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, 17 May 2023.
Student Code of Conduct Reminders
We seek your support in and thank you for upholding the high expectations of our College in terms of uniform/presentation and behaviour. Given the pattern of issues that have arisen of late, we provide these reminders:
Uniform
As the weather cools down, we would like to remind you that during the colder months the following items are acceptable:
- Foxwell SSC Wattle coloured knitted jumper (with college logo)
- Foxwell SSC Ink blue jacket (with college logo)
- Foxwell SSC Ink blue soft-shell jacket (with college logo) *NEW- fleece lined, windproof and warm.
* All jumpers and jackets must be Foxwell branded, no other jumpers, including plain navy crew neck or jackets are permitted unless they are worn beneath and not visible, under a school branded jacket/jumper. Hooded jumpers and jackets ("Hoodies" are not permitted.
THE SCHOOL UNIFORM IS TO BE WORN IN ADHERENCE TO THE CODE FROM WHEN STUDENTS LEAVE HOME UNTIL THEY RETURN HOME. This means that non-uniform items can not be worn with the uniform at any time, whether on they way to, during or on the way home for school.

*Socks must be visible above the ankle and only the Foxwell socks or plain white socks are to be worn with our College uniform.
*Nose piercings/facial piercings are not permitted.
*Earrings worn by students are to be in adherence to the policy - this includes no dangly earrings or oversized earrings.
*No acrylics or coloured nails are permitted.
*Leather shoes are to be worn with the formal uniform AND in any areas where a risk is present including science laboratories, kitchens, particular art classroom spaces and technology rooms.
Technology Violations
Students and families are reminded that:
*VPNs are not permitted;
*the playing of games, viewing of social media e.g. TikTok and other apps are is not permitted on iPads during lessons; and
*mobile phones, if brought to school, should be in lockers from 8.45am to 3pm.
Attendance
Students and families are reminded that the school day begins at 8.45am with a warning bell at 8.35am. The school day finishes at 3pm. Students should be in class for the whole lesson, each lesson, between these hours, unless parent consent has been provided via a phone call or email. It is disappointing to see students walking to Starbucks, for example, at 8.20am and then not arriving to class before 8.45am. Similarly disappointing is the incidents of students not getting off the bus on time but rather spending additional on the bus doing another loop and stating that the reason for their late arrival is the "late bus".
Behaviour
Under no circumstance is disrespectful behaviour (occupational disrespesct) towards a staff member tolerated. Disrespectful behaviour can include swearing, making inappropriate comments, physical misconduct, defiance and being dismissive. Please reinforce at home the importance of being a respectful student - one of our three College Rules.
A final note...
I am always delighted to hear positive news about our students. On a daily basis, I hear reports from staff members and visitors to our college regarding the kindness, friendliness and helpfulness of students as well as the hard work they are putting into their classes. Ms Moller and I are endeavouring to acknowledge this positive behaviour during our day-to-day work and more formally at assemblies. I wondered if you/your child have/has thought about providing some positive feedback or a compliment to a staff member? A short email or a quick note or even one of our Foxwell postcards can be a really thoughtful gesture. Being an educator is not an easy job. If you think you would like to make this kind of contact, please do!
