Term 2 appears to be flying by as we've just reached the halfway point of the term. The last 5 weeks have allowed me to see many of the outstanding things on offer to our students at Foxwell State Secondary College. Some of the highlights over the last 5 weeks have been:
In week 2 our Gen STEM students competed in the Hydrogen Grand Prix Australian Competition in Gladstone. Our students proudly represented the College with our teams coming in at 12th and 15th in the competition. A great abc story about the competition can be found here.
In week 3 we gathered as a community to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers in our annual ANZAC ceremony. The respect and behaviour shown by our students was outstanding and we took the time to understand the significance of ANZAC Day and the sacrifices that were made.
Week 3 also gave us the opportunity to meet with some of our Year 6 students and parents that are excited to begin their secondary schooling journey in 2024 as part of our Foxwell Family.
Week 4 our Year 7 and 8 students had a guest speaker, Brett Murray, Australian of the Year Nominee and former State Champion Boxer to the college to address our students about Making Bullying History. The goal of the program is to reduce rates of bullying incidents and increase the feeling of safety within the school community. Students were engaged and attentive through the session, and had an opportunity to provide feeback on the presentation.
Another big week this week saw our Year 11 information evening for our current Year 10 students. This is an exciting time for our Year 10 cohort as they are provided with opportunities and experiences to prepare them for making choices in term 3 around their 2024 subjects and pathways. This was very well attended by our families and lots of external providers were available to answer the many questions that arise during this time in your child's educational journey. There will be more opportunities to engage in senior schooling preparation events this year to ensure we are all ready for an exciting roll out of Senior schooling next year.
We have also been working as a whole College on our Entry and Exit routines to ensure consistency for staff and students in each and every classroom. It is important that we work together around consistent expectations so that students are entering our classrooms prepared and ready for learning. We have also been holding fortnightly year level assemblies and full school assemblies where we will focus on the explicit teaching of our positive learning behaviour expectations and what it means at Foxwell State Secondary College to be Respectful and Responsible Learners through our SPIRIT values. Along with this, we will also be celebrating those students that are consistently showing our SPIRIT values in their learning and behaviours.
I am looking forward to continuing to celebrate our students and their achievements throughout the rest of the term, with our annual Night at the Museum for Year 7 an 8 occuring on Wednesday afternoon and our Starbound Dance Troupe Competitions in week 7. I look forward to being able to meet many more of our families at these events.
