NIHONGO NEWS

It’s hard to believe that we are already mid-term! As we approach the second half of Term 3, there are some exciting activities ahead in Japanese for students to showcase their skills and engage in Japanese culture.

2025 Japan Tour

On Tuesday 8 August, we held an information session for the proposed Japan Tour in 2025.

The trip will be open for students currently in Years 8, 9 and 10 (in Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2025). Priority for participating in the tour will be given to students studying Japanese in 2025. It is highly recommended that students continue their Japanese studies if they wish to participate in our future Japan tours.

If you are interested in knowing more and missed the information session, please email Ms Vickers on rvick20@eq.edu.au

GCMLTAQ Language Speech Contest

In two weeks, selected students from Years 7, 8 and 9 will be competing against other Gold Coast schools in the GCMLTAQ Speech Contest. The contest takes place at Griffith University on Sunday 20th August.  We wish all of our entrants the best of luck as they proudly represent our school!

Year 8 Food Tasting

A reminder that Year 8 students will have the chance to participate in tasting a range of traditional Japanese foods and condiments at the end of this term. Permission notes with full details have been sent home and must be returned for students to be able to participate. If your child does not have a form, please contact their Japanese teacher.

Language Support

With assessment due dates coming up, revising class notes and practising vocabulary in EP is important in supporting academic success in Japanese. Ms Yoshino and Ms Madsen are available for support sessions from 11:30am – 12:20pm on Wednesdays, upstairs in the Learning Hub. Students can use these sessions for additional help with their assessment, or a quiet space to catch up on outstanding EP tasks to support their in-class learning.

Please see the image below with some ways you can support your child/children with preparing for their upcoming assessment.

2023 Japanese Art Competition

We invite students from all year levels to join in the Foxwell State Secondary College's Japanese Art Competition.

To enter, create an artwork inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic piece The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1831) and share your artwork to your Japanese teacher via Seesaw or email.

Entries close at the end of Term 3. If you have any questions, please email Ms Yoshino (myosh15@eq.edu.au).

Participants and winners for all contests will be celebrated in Term 4.
