Deputy Principal Update
Good afternoon students and families.
As we very rapidly approach the end of the school year, it is with excitement that I inform you of the subject selection process for students entering Year 10 in 2024.
In Year 10, as students enter their second year of the Compass Years, they engage in a curriculum that allows for greater choice in subjects, providing students the opportunity to work in areas that they have an interest or passion in.
Attached to this email is the 2024 Year 10 Subject Handbook.
It outlines the compulsory curriculum (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science - History, Health and Physical Education (HPE).
It also provides a summary of Personal Endeavour Courses (PECs) that form the elective courses that our Year 9 students will be able to select from for Year 10 in 2024. Each student will choose 4 PECs that they will study over the course of the year.
Early next week during their Activate lessons, Year 10 students will participate in an information session at school, outlining the choices available to them. Students must finalise their decisions by Monday 6 November. These selections will be recorded by students in OneSchool. Further details on this process will be provided to students in their information session, although many will be familiar with the process from last year. Should students feel confident to begin to submit their subject choices via OneSchool already, they are able to. Once submitted, student are able to reenter at any point to edit or amend their selections, up until the close date of Monday 6 November.
Additionally, should students wish to apply or continue in Extension Mathematics, English or Science classes for 2024, they will need to submit the following Forms Survey to register their interest. Please note that strict criteria is in place for participation in these classes, to ensure student success.
Should you have further questions about subject offerings, I encourage you to direct your questions to the relevant Curriculum Head of Department.
