Principal's Report

Kym Amor_22 Jan 2020_Square.jpg
Welcome to the 2021 school year.
We are very excited to have welcomed over 510 students to our College this year which is significantly more than was predicted in the plans for this College.
We feel honoured that so many families see Foxwell as their school of choice and assure you that we will work diligently to provide a world of opportunity for each child.
At Foxwell we define success -

We provide the appropriate support and extension to ensure that all students can reach their potential and achieve their learning goals. Throughout the year your child’s teachers will communicate with you about how you can best work with them to support your child through being aware of your child’s learning goals, their progress and their engagement and wellbeing. We believe that education is a partnership and that parents and carers are vitally important and play a critical role.
Over the coming weeks we will be outlining many of our policies and procedures and also sharing our great success stories with our College community. We regularly communicate via our online Newsletter and Bulletins, Facebook and our Website. Staff will also use other Apps, phone calls and emails to communicate more personally with you.  We ask you to check these regularly so you can stay up to date.
SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS
Please be aware that our College gates do not officially open until 8.15am and close at 4pm each day, unless a child is in an authorised program with a member of our staff.
We ask that parents do not drop off their children before 8am as there are no staff available to support them in an emergency. We also ask that all students leave our College grounds by 4pm.
Our college car park has certainly gotten much busier this year. As usual we encourage all parents to consider the Active School Travel Program where our students will travel to school via bike, scooter, walking, bus or by carpooling. Should you NEED to drive your child to school or collect them in the afternoon, we ask to you closely adhere to our clear expectations. These include:
  • Use the STOP, DROP, GO area for just this purpose. There is a 2 minute maximum time limit for stopping so if your child is not visible to you, please leave the zone and enter the car park appropriately. We will not be allowing cars into this area before 3pm as the bell does not go until this time and students need at least 2 minutes to get from their class to the zone. Please note that hefty fines are possible.
  • Follow the arrows and adhere to the ONE WAY parking signs. Under no circumstances should a car drive in the illegal direction of our car park. Our car park is strictly one directional and fines will be given to those who drive illegally risking the safety of other cars and pedestrians.
  • Be respectful by always driving to the very first available bay at the front of the first section of the STOP DROP GO zone. Do not stop in front of the school as this causes the traffic to bank back which will delay all other families. At FOXWELL, we are respectful to other members of our community at all times.
  • Strictly adhere to the speed signs - this week we have witnessed many cars driving at 30-40km/hr in our car park which is putting the safety of our students at great risk. Our children are precious so SLOW DOWN and do not drive while using your mobile phone.
  • The driver is never to leave the drivers seat if using the STOP, DROP, GO lane.
  • Be respectful to the staff who are providing safety support to the school community. Follow their directions at all times as they are putting the safety of ALL students first.
  • If using the car park we recommend you take the first park you see and fill from the entry as you may go past the last available park and have to leave the school grounds and re-enter which would be very frustrating.
  • Consider coming to the school at around 3.10-3.20 for the afternoon pick up if possible. This is a much quieter time for collection. Your child will be safely waiting either in the covered seats at the front of the school or they can wait in the air conditioned Learning Hub. You will find things much calmer at this time.
  • Exit the car park onto Foxwell Road safely. Yesterday a sedan sped out of the car park and came close to hitting some of our students who walking witha supervising teacher to the BUS STOP. This illegal and dangerous behaviour is unacceptable.

At Foxwell our SPIRIT values define how members of our College community interact with each other. We have high expectations of our students, staff and parents in all of our college environments, including Face-to-face, over the phone, and via email or social media. We are proud of the positive relationships between our College and parents/carers

This same FOXWELL SPIRIT relates to our car park. We teach our students at Foxwell Integrity - which we often simplify as meaning ‘Doing the right thing if someone is watching or not’. We ask parents to follow this expectation and whether there are staff monitoring the car park and STOP, DROP GO, or not, please follow the expectations and do the right thing always.
EXTRA CURRICULAR
As outlined in the Enrolment Interviews we expect all students to be involved in at least one Extra Curricular Activity throughout the year.
These include Instrumental Music, Debating and Public Speaking, Chess, Art, eSports, Drama, the Kokoda Challenge, and many sports and other activities. Over the coming weeks we will be sending home information about nominating for many of these programs so keep a close look out.
The first to appear will be our District Tennis and Swimming and The Kokoda Challenge with many others following soon after. Please encourage your child to get involved so that they can take advantage of the excellent range of offerings we have at this school.
Once again I welcome you to our extraordinary College and look forward to getting to know our newest Foxwell College community members over the coming weeks and months.
Until next time
