The Compass Years - Year 9 2022

This week, we begin the formal process of course selections for Year 9 2022.

Please access supporting materials:

1. A video recording of our 27^th July Yr 9 2022 Information Night presentation for families who were unable to attend on the night or would like to revisit the information provided;

2. A digital copy of The Compass Years – Year 9 at Foxwell State Secondary College Students who have not yet received their hard copy of the Handbook can collect one from Student Services;
3. Other helpful links, such as QR Codes for specific courses.

Please ensure that you and your child have carefully read through each section of the Handbook so that when the time comes, your child can make informed and confident selections. It is important that your child selects six (6) preferred Personal Endeavour Courses, in the knowledge that, ultimately, their four (4) Personal Endeavour Courses for 2022 may be any of these preferences. Students must rank order their PEC preferences. Please refer to the Handbook for more information about all options. Students are welcome to consult with their teachers and Heads of Departments for assistance in navigating courses.

Based on feedback from our community, please note the latest version of the requirements pertaining to Excellence Programs and selection for subjects for 2022.

The following events will occur this week:

In selecting subjects, students will be required to follow the guidelines:

SELECT   

• Health and Physical Education
• English OR English Extension
• Maths OR Maths Extension
• Science OR Science Extension

SELECT one (1) of the following:  

• What Does it Mean to be Human? (History & Philosophy) OR 
• Youth Justice (Civics & Citizenship) OR 
• Creating a Business (Economics & Business) OR 
• Food Sustainability (Geography)

SELECT four (4) Personal Endeavour Courses (PECs)

SELECT two (2) back up Personal Endeavour Courses (PECs) in case first preference choices do not run.

IF CHOOSING Japanese, students must:

SELECT either Continuing Japanese 1 OR Anime 

                                           PLUS

SELECT either Continuing Japanese 2 OR Visit Japan

Once students have selected all subjects on OneSchool, students are to take a screen shot and both a parent/carer and the student are to sign to show their approval of the selection. Signed screen shot to be emailed to SubjectSelection@foxwellssc.eq.edu.au with the student’s first name and surname in the subject header.
