SPIRIT Cards

This week has seen the exciting launch of our college SPIRIT Card initiative acknowledging and encouraging students to consistently engage in positive behaviour and our school's SPIRIT values every day. The initiative aims to build and foster positive relationships, positive emotions, positive health, positive engagement, positive accomplishment and positive purpose within their learning.

The process for students is simple and easy to be acknowledged for the great work they are already doing and continuing:

  1. Students are provided with a SPIRIT card to have on their person during the school day. Students are encouraged to have this out on their desk, or kept safe within their iPad case.

  1. When teachers acknowledge the embodiment of a SPIRIT value within the classroom, playground or community, they will celebrate student’s effort and initial a single box on the student card – just like a café loyalty card.

Example behaviours include:

  • Service – Volunteering to show a new student around the school.
  • Perseverance – Trying something new in class, outside of ability or comfort.
  • Integrity – Consistently showing a positive attitude with others.
  • Respect and responsibility – Following classroom rules each lesson.
  • Inclusivity – Being warm and welcoming and encouraging others to join in.
  • Teamwork – Working together to achieve learning goals.
  1. When a student receives 6 initials from teachers, they can exchange the card for a reward with their year level Head of Students.

  1. Students are acknowledged, celebrated and rewarded for their efforts. Submitted cards will also go in the running for a weekly draw for a larger reward as further incentive!

See our Facebook post video for further information!

Providing students with positive reinforcement for expected behaviours is one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve classroom and playground behaviour and to develop a positive culture of learning. By engaging in the SPIRIT card positive behaviour initiative, students will receive feedback in order to learn and maintain the behaviours and skills we value here at Foxwell State Secondary College. So, let’s encourage our students to get on board and to continue building positive learning experiences!
