Maths in the Real World!
Mathematics In the World
This week in Mathematics, both Year 7 and 8 students started their studies in statistics by investigating the question “Poverty – is it a real issue world wide?” Students investigated the concept of poverty and the levels it exists in a range of countries around the world. They used their mathematical knowledge to determine that on average 28 million people live in poverty in a range of countries. From these investigations, students realised how powerful maths can be in exploring some of the world’s big issues and how we, as a community, can start looking at these issues to effect change globally by thinking and acting locally.
