What a term it has been. From the incredible highs of our opening days, to the VIP visits celebrating our new school and our Foundation students, the wonderful times we have had with our students, staff and school community, and to the uncertain times we now face, it will go down in history as one of the most interesting first years any school has experienced.
The end of term has brought monumental change and challenges but we stand strong as together we know that we’ve got this and we will remain the strong and supportive school community that we very proud of.
Over the last few weeks, what has stood out to me is the support of students and families to each other and our school. The generosity and respect demonstrated is deeply appreciated by us all. Our school community has remained connected and our established communication channels have held us in great stead. We have utilised the student free days to create our Continuity of Learning Plan that will allow for quality lessons to engage our students, regardless of where our students will be learning from.
School and life during term 2 is likely to be very different for students, families and staff. Foxwell State Secondary College is well placed to deliver remote learning, should this be required, as we have one of the highest levels of uptake for our BYOX iPad program in Queensland. Our students are familiar with utilising online resources and the school has invested in leading edge and high quality learning platforms since we opened. We have some of the best electronic resources in the state, including top quality online textbooks and interactional learning platforms. These will provide the foundation for a potential remote and flexible educational model.
We will continue to communicate with you regularly via our online platform, Seesaw and our Schoolzine newsletters and bulletins. We will provide detailed instructions for our Continuity of Learning plan and helpful hints on how to manage learning. Our students’ physical and mental health is also very important to us and we will be providing activities and resources to assist our students in these areas.
This week I have witnessed the diligence, collaboration and professionalism of staff firsthand. I have seen the quality of online learning materials that have been created. We are dedicated to making this work. There will be challenges ahead. I want you to know we are focused on working through these to provide the best remote educational model we can, should this be needed. Please continue to work with us and seek support should you need this.
I wish you and your family all the best in these complex times.
Take care.
