Happy Week 3 to all of our Year 8 families!
Year 8 Assembly
Our College SPIRIT values seek to assist our students in developing their whole self, not just their academic or sporting virtues, and we explicitly teach our students these values in all areas of our College life. During our Year 8 assembly this Wednesday morning, Mr Breese (Head of Year 8) and I spoke to students about the importance of Resilience and Perseverance, two of our College SPIRIT values. These values are critical in responding to adversity and maintaining overall positive wellbeing. Students watched a speech by Michelle Obama, titled 'How to succeed in life'. You may like to watch it yourself here:
Our Acting Principal, Mrs Steinhardt, addressed students reminding them of our high expectations focussing on the SPIRIT value of Respect; reminding students that following teacher instructions is imperative and that students who demonstrate defiance or refusal to follow teacher instructions will have a consequence applied. Special mention was also made to water-balloon/bombs, explaining that these are prohibited items and that students found in possession, either filled or empty, will also have consequences applied. Please support us in ensuring that your child does not bring these items to school.
Out of bounds areas of the school, in particular the verandahs, were discussed, and it was reiterated that during lunch times no students should be on the verandahs unless seated in the Games room on Level 2 of E Block. Students were reminded of the importance of arriving to class on time. Students out of class without permission will be considered as truants and appropriate consequences will be applied.
Students were reminded that rules exist in society, as well as in school to promote good order and to maintain safety of all. Students who behave in a manner that places the good order and management of the school at risk, or act in a manner that poses a safety risk, will be held accountable for their actions and serious consequenes which could include, but not limited to suspension or exclusuon may be applied.
