The feedback from members of our school community and our partners is vitally important to our school. Recently we underwent a Full School Review, where every four years, three external reviewers from the Department analyse each school's progress against the improvement priorities of the school and the Department.
The reviewers communicated with every staff member, a large number of students and parents and many members of the school and local community. We will share the full findings in the next newsletter and on our website soon, but wanted to share some of the highlights.
We received the greatest compliment a school can receive when told "if we (the Department) could bottle the culture of this school and use it like a vaccine, we would cure the problems being faced by education across the country". We couldn’t be prouder!
The reviewers identified four consistent strengths of our school.
- Students are at the centre of all decisions
- Foxwell - Where Kindness is real
- Exploring Deep Learning in our World
- Success is supported in so many ways.
As we grow to be a Year 7-12 school, we have much work to do to ensure we maintain our strong culture, high expectations, and supporting ‘success’ for all students. We thank our community for their commitment to these values and priorities. We commit to continuing to collaborate with you, as we plan for our Middle and Senior School. Together we are great.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
We are incredibly proud of our students and how they are leading our school and taking on challenges that see them interacting with students of all ages from across the World.
Recently a number of our students engaged in the Design Tracks program with students from Years 9-12 in a fantastic initiative of the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. We are so proud that students from our school (the youngest in the program) were selected from this large group of students to be featured and share their creativity and passion at the Queensland Art Gallery.

A brave group of our students also brilliantly represented our school at the Australia-ASEAN Online Youth Forum. Once again we were the only Year 7 students involved. Our students communicated with great confidence and intellect when working through the global challenges provided to them and the groups of Year 10-12 students from across Queensland.

Soon our Advanced Learning Program students will visit the QUT Young Accelerators at The Cube Digital Workspace at Gardens Point Campus in the Brisbane CBD. The group will participate in “Clean energy: wind power” learning about modern energy production, with a focus on wind turbines. This workshop will also strengthen their awareness of various Global Goals for Sustainability.
Our G-STEM students continue to work with their PhD mentors from the University of Queensland on their chosen project.
The Student Council is performing their role well, and will continue to develop in their leadership skills over the years. Presently they are working on a number of projects including determining the Foundation Year legacy gift that will commemorate the 200+ students who will be forever known as our Foundation Students. (Don't forget to donate your small change to help fund this special legacy piece).

All of these opportunities and our students are only in Year 7. We will continue to offer our students a World of Opportunities. Please encourage your child to get involved.
Until next time

We are delighted to invite all families to Foxwell State Secondary College's Celebration of Success 2020. This event will be an opportunity to showcase an aspect of every student's year at Foxwell, as well as a chance to view student performances and enjoy each other's company during the social hour.
Happy World Kindness Day to the Foxwell State Secondary College community.
Take a moment to view the following videos, acknowledging that "Kindness is the Foxwell Way".
On Friday 13th November, the Creative Voices students travelled to Coomera Rivers State School and hosted a series of Drama and Media workshops with the Year 6 students for their Day 10 experience day. Mrs McLennan ran the Drama workshop which saw students create interesting freeze frames and bring characters to life while Ms Swader created some awesome stop-motion animation videos with lego figurines. We are so proud of the Creative Voices students who showed leadership, integrity and teamwork as they lead the Year 6’s in these Arts experiences. We look forward to working with the primary schools again in 2021.

In November we will be asking students to collect and bring in spare small change - 5c, 10c or whatever you feel comfortable donating. The proceeds will go towards supporting our students in the purchase of a legacy piece to commemorate their first year at our brand new school.
Classes are in the running for a weekly prize and the class that collects the most change throughout the challenge will win a class pizza party!
