First Day Back to School Semester 2
Monday 12th July is our first day back to school for Semester 2.
In line with a normal school day, students are to arrive between 8.15am and 8.35am. Parents are asked to drop off students at the gate. Year 7 Students are to be seated in the Sports Performance Hall at 8.45am and Year 8 Students are to be seated in the Amphitheatre at 8.45am. As per the usual requirements, students arriving after 8.45am should provide a note from home unless families have already made contact with the office to advise of their child's late arrival.
As we move in to Semester 2, all students will receive a copy of their new timetable at their year level assembly. This new timetable will reflect common mid-year changes such as speciality area rotations for Technologies and Creative Arts. All students will notice changed class compositions, rooms and teacher allocations. Such mid-year changes are normal in a high school setting in accommodating opportunities for students to experience the multitude of different learning areas available.
Where a change of Sports Uniform day has been required, this information will be communicated directly with the families of impacted students in Week 1.
The Queensland Department of Education has taken some of your important COVID-19 questions about going back to school for Term 3 and answered them HERE.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held next Tuesday 20th July 2021 from 3.10pm to 7.30pm. These conferences are an invaluable opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and further explore their progress this year. It is also helpful to gain insights from the teachers regarding feedback, strategies for improvement and any other considerations that may assist your child in developing their abilities even further.
During Week 1, you will receive an email outlining the process for booking conferences. Please ensure that you book only one conference timeslot for each of your child's teachers, even if they are the teacher for more than one subject. This will allow us to maximise opportunities for teachers to meet with as many families as possible. In the meantime, please take the time to review with your child their Report Card, which was issued on the last day of term, as well as their ongoing progress. It is helpful to engage in the work they have completed in class, the evidence of their learning in Seesaw – including feedback from their teachers – as well as the information they can share with you about their learning. Good questions to ask, at any time, are:
- How did you go/how are you going with your learning?
- How do you know that this is how you are progressing?
- What are you doing to improve/which strategies are you implementing to improve in your learning and progress?
- How will you know if your strategies are working?
Learning dialogues are effective in engaging all partners in your child’s learning so it is helpful to make this a habit or routine in your home. We look forward to seeing you on 20th July in our Sports Performance Hall for our Conferences.

If your child does not yet have a school jumper, please make the appropriate arrangements. Remembering that the wattle coloured, knit, v-neck jumper is to be worn with the formal uniform and that the sports jacket is ONLY to be worn with the sports uniform or Excellence uniforms on their designated day of the week.
If your child has lost a hat, please organise a replacement ASAP. The formal hat and the sports hat are required with the respective uniform and must be worn whenever a child is outside classrooms, including on the way to and from school. Students without a hat must have a note from home to explain any temporary reason for not having any item of uniform. Without a note of explanation, a student will be issued with a detention, if no member of the family can bring the missing item to school.
We appreciate your support in maintaining the high expectations of our College.
The uniform shop is open three days per week:
- Tuesday from 8.00am to 11.00am
- Wednesday from 3.00pm to 4.40pm
- Thursday from 8.00am to 11.00am
Uniform items can also be purchased 24/7 on-line https://umspl.com.au/collections/foxwell-state-secondary-college/
