A message from the Acting Principal...
A message from the Acting Principal...
It was wonderful seeing so many parents and carers last Tuesday evening at our first Student Led Conferences for 2023. Our new format conferences allowed parents and carers the opportunity to meet their child's teacher ahead of, what will be for many classes, final submission of assessments for term 1, with feedback ideally assisting parents and carers in supporting their child as they apply draft feedback.
On the same evening we hosted the first of what will be many Senior Secondary information sessions for our Year 10 parents and carers. Over the coming months, parents and carers, along with their children, will participate in our Senior Education Training Program, culminating in a students Senior Education Training Plan. We acknowledge at Foxwell the importance of parents and carers in guiding their children, our students, as they make decisions about their Compulsory Participation phase of learning. The saying "It takes a village to raise a child" is no moreso true than now and the next 2 and a half years as we work together in ensuring a valid and viable post school pathway for all students, realised by the obtainment of the Queensland Certificate of Education or Queensland Certificate of Individual Attainment.
Having myself supported over 1500 students with successfully attaining a QCE or QCIA, I value above all else, the importance of the partnership between school and parent/carer. With a plethora of new terms, pathways, providors and many more 'new things' to wrap your head around, it is as much about making information available for you, as it is for our students. We'd love to hear from you about how we can help you to help your child! Please complete the short survey included in the Deputy Principal's Address, that will assist us in designing our parent/carer information and communication piece that we will roll out over the coming months.
I would like to personally thank our 2022 Executive Committee for their hard work and dedication to providing opportunities for Foxwell SSC students, parents and teachers. 2022 was our most successful year yet for our P&C boasting another successful Colour Explosion, their first Bunnings BBQ, the canteen for our first college Musical, the first Meet the Politicians morning tea, as well as many other exciting and prosperous ventures. Thank you to:
President, Roz Rowe
Vice President, Tarena Pomeroy
Secretary, Michael Cowling
Treasurer, Krish Ravipati
Grants Officer, Michelle Digby

The Fusion Years - Senior Schooling at Foxwell State Secondary College from 2023
Over the past two weeks, all Year 10 students and families have had the opportunity to access information regarding our Fusion Years Program. Last Tuesday 7 March, families had the option of attending one of two sessions while our Year 10s were provided with the same information during their Fusion class on Tuesday 14 March 2023. During these sessions, Ms Shepherd and I delivered information from our state curriculum body, the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) as well as our vision for Senior Schooling at Foxwell. As we move quickly towards Year 11, significant information – in both quantity and range – will be shared with you. It is helpful that we navigate this information progressively and together, so that we are all informed and on the same page...and not overwhelmed.
Over the next few weeks, a number of events relating to Senior Schooling will take place including our Careers Festival (please see the date claimer below) and our Career Education Fusion lessons. It is imperative that all families, particularly students, invest in and value these opportunities to learn and engage so that, together, we can best plan each student’s senior pathway and journey.
Please take the time to review with your child the presentation from the last fortnight. It is information that we must all know and understand. Also below is the QR Code for you to provide specific information regarding senior schooling – the courses, careers and other programs in which your child is interested. The more specific feedback we get, the more targeted we can be in planning options that suit our context. If your child is unsure about course or career names, please ask them to provide a description (e.g. I want to work with children in a day care centre but don’t want to go to uni; I want to study how bridges can be built and design them; I want to work in an animal shelter, I want to study how the body works and how I can help people recover from injuries) and we will investigate from there! The more you tell us, the more we know, so please take the opportunity to let us know what you want and need.
In this bulletin, we will now feature our most up-to-date career information, such as Trade Tasters on offer at TAFE and other programs as well as deadlines for applications and other priorities, so please take the time to review these amazing opportunities.
As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any questions you have – dnico0@eq.edu.au
Have a great weekend, hopefully somewhere cool!
Ms Nicolas
