I'm not sure how we got here! As we look to the holidays, I am overwhelmed with sentiment, pride and excitement. On Friday 24 November 2023, our Year 10 students, our Foundation cohort, completed their final day of compulsory learning and I cannot help but feel a little emotional.
I started my journey at Foxwell on Monday 11 May 2020. We were in the midst of a lockdown; not a student in sight! It felt so unsettling to be planning for learning in a school where I couldn't see, or hear, the excited chatter of our Year 7s. But that was shortlived! On 25 May 2020, everyone returned! It was a reunion like no other and a lovely way to get to know the students with whom I would closely work for the next three or more years at Foxwell.
Together we have experienced many firsts: our first Celebration of Success, course selections, Foxwell Camp, Colour Run, sports carnivals, performances, leadership activities, excursions, ice baths, Student v Teacher competitions, gym sessions, school construction site visits, Night at the Museum, Up and Atom Fair, eSports and Fuse Cup challenges, DramaFest, eisteddfods, Activate Grand Final, work experience, TAFE tasters, SET Plans, Semi Formal...it seems the list could be endless! I hope that each student looks back over the past four years with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and affection. Looking at the change in every student, not just physical (the photos at the Semi Formal took us down that particular memory lane!), fills me with pride and hope for a brighter future. Each student has within them the opportunity and ability to make a change in the world around them - no matter how great or small it may seem.
I encourage all students to relish the next few weeks with family and friends before they take their next step, whether it be into Senior Schooling at Foxwell, another educational site, another program or full-time work, and to reflect on the friendships they have formed while at Foxwell. You may even want to reach out to some your teachers and express your gratitude for all they did to support you in our learning. Some of our Year 10s will leave us at the end of year to begin the next chapter in their adventure, somewhere beyond the familiar rooms and grounds of Foxwell. I wish them every success in the future and genuinely hope they find for themselves the pathway to their happiness. For those returning to us, we will see you on Day 1 of Term 1 on Monday 22 January 2024.
Finally, I wanted to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mrs Lisa Moller, Ms Caysha Renton and Ms Amy Benbow who have supported our Year 10 students so conscientiously, kindly and professionally this year. Your ability to go above and beyond for our students, their families and our staff does not go unnoticed and truly makes Foxwell a better place in which to learn.
On behalf of the Year 10 Team, we wish you a safe and happy holiday break. Please continued to check your email and our College Facebook page for updates regarding the start of the 2024 school year.
Ms Di Nicolas, Deputy Principal, Year 10
DAY 1 2023 PHOTO
As 2023 draws to a close, I’d like to thank the students of Year 10, who have been wonderfully warm and welcoming to me in my first year at the College. While it hasn’t always been easy as the Foundation cohort, I have loved witnessing your growth and resilience. You are developing into great leaders whether you wear a badge or not, and this is something we have spoken about at length this year.
Parents and guardians, thank you for your engagement as we have worked together to challenge and support our students. There are many exciting moments ahead for our young people, and your continued involvement will stand them in good stead to embrace the opportunities ahead and successes I know they will achieve.
Year 10s, unfortunately I will not be working with you as your Head of Year in 2024 as I’ll be Head of Year 8 next year, but I hope you continue chatting with me around campus or in the classroom and give me updates on how you’re going. I wish you all the best of luck as you start your journey in the Fusion Years in 2024!
Students who attended the Semi Formal will soon be sent a link that can be used to access the galleries of both our College Photographer and the Photo Booth. There are strict, legal rules regarding the copying, redistribution and altering of these images. Please read all information prior to accessing the photos and do not share any PIN or password with any other person, including students. All downloads will be tracked.
Mrs Street, Ms Davies, Mr Berrell, Ms Collins and I have worked very hard of the last few weeks to finalise all students’ course selections for 2024/2025. In the coming days, each student will receive an email listing their courses. Should there be issues with your eligibility to study a course, you will be contacted by the Head of Department responsible for that course. So far, we have over 100 students engaged in VET Courses either on-site or at TAFE, which is very exciting. Please be aware that there may be requirements issued by TAFE/VET providers regarding your entry into their courses that are being run at Foxwell as part of our timetable (Cert III Fitness, Cert IV Crime and Justice, Cert II Health Support Services, Diploma of Business), so it is important that you regularly check your emails (including your junk mail). You can always contact Ms Davies via ldavi157@eq.edu.au
USI - Unique Student Identifier
USI - Unique Student Identifier Number
All students were provided the opportunity to create or retrieve their USI in their Fusion class, however, they are required to record a form of identification (Medicare Card). Can you please support your child in completing this process if they have not already done so.
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is an identification number used in some education systems to track and manage student records. It is a unique code assigned to each student and is often used in educational institutions, such as schools, colleges, and training organizations, to keep track of individual students' progress and achievements. The USI enables students to access and share their education and training records easily throughout their learning journey. It also assists educational institutions and organizations in managing student information, tracking completion of qualifications, and providing accurate and up-to-date data on students' educational history.
Link below will direct you to the homepage where you can select 'create a USI' or 'retrieve USI'.
COMPASS - Your Personalised Certificate
Each of you is eligible to apply for your COMPASS - Certificate of Mastery, Personal Accomplishment, Skills and Strengths. This statement will list all of your achievements, microcredentials, awards and other important aspects of your Year 9 and 10 experience. Please note that this is a full statement of your achievements in Year 9 and 10, not to be confused with the Certificate already issued to all students. Once printed, these certificates will be sent home. Please read the information and questions carefully before submitting your responses.
I am sure some students will be happy to find themselves in new uniforms having outgrown those that they have been wearing since they first enrolled here. All Year 11 and 12 students will be expected to be dressed in the senior formal uniform from Day 1. Please continue to check our Facebook updates for the Uniform Shop’s opening hours. As always, students who are not dressed entirely according to the Uniform Policy will be issued consequences. Rules regarding socks, shoes, hats, bags etc. remain in place. Students can wear their Compass Years badges on either the collar or tie of their shirt or their blazer.
The images include the tie. The tie is NOT mandatory for students to wear. It is pictured to provide additional context for those students that may choose to wear it. There will not be an option for a Senior School dress.
Please note that the Dress Code as outlined in our Student Code of Conduct remains in place for our Seniors. This means that all rules relating to jewellery, piercings, shoes, wearing of the complete uniform, hats, bags and so on all apply.
Please refer to updates from the College/Uniform Shop regarding opening hours prior to our return to school in 2024.
