Welcome to Term 3 - Year 10 Staffing Update
Good afternoon, Families,
Welcome back to Term 3, and Semester 2, of our 2024 school year. We hope that your holiday break treated you and your family well.
For Semester 2, it is with with great excitement that we re-introduce our new Head of Department of Year 10 Mr Bryce Berrell. Bryce will be working with our Year 10 cohort for the remainder of the year. He is thrilled to be re-joining the Year 10 team as we begin to guide our students through deciding on their future pathways and personal endeavours. Bryce brings to the Year 10 team his experience in student engagement and wellbeing and, having worked with the cohort previously, he is keen to support the next steps for our students.
Today, earlier than we initially expected, we bid farewell to Mrs Sarah O'Hara, Head of Year 10, as she begins her maternity leave. Sarah has been a wealth of support for all of our Year 10 students and will be missed by all. We cannot thank Sarah enough for her effort and support in this role over the past year and we look forward to celebrating the safe arrival of her little bundle of joy over the coming weeks.
Alongside Bryce, we would like to welcome to the Head of Year 10 role, Ms Clarissa Moody. Clarissa joined us at Foxwell State Secondary College this year and having worked in a similar role at her previous school, we know that she will be a true asset to our Year 10 team. Clarissa has been impressed with the conduct of our Year 10s on their return this week and it has been great to see students engaged in learning and settling back into routine. Clarissa's role will be to continue supporting our students wellbeing and engagement to ensure they reach their full potential.
If any families wish to contact the Year 10 team, they are encouraged to make contact by phone on 5555 3333 or via email:

Chart Your Path - Planning for Senior School
On Thursday 18 July 2024, all Year 10 students will participate in planning for their program of learning in Year 11 and 12. This full-day experience provides our Year 10s with the time and opportunity to immerse themselves in their pathway planning, informed by and equipped with their personalised information including:
- their TrackED profile which outlines their personalised data set such as academic achievement, attendance rate, behaviour and effort data, recommendations for senior schooling pathways and courses;
- course recommendations from Heads of Departments and Teachers regarding senior school English and Maths subjects;
- pathway recommendations from Deputy Principals and Heads of Student Wellbeing, Engagement and Learning;
- any relevant pre-requisite information, such as Year 10 Levels of Achievement for entry into General Courses or VET/TAFE programs.
As we prepare for SET Planning in Week 4 of this term, as communicated at our Information Evening last term, it is essential that students are prepared with all that they need to make informed, responsible and supported decisions regarding their next steps into their meaningful post-schooling pathways, including further education and employment.
The Program for the day involves students working solely on their own pathway planning.
Session 1: My Personal Profile – Data Mining, Career Education and Informed Choices
Session 2: Senior Schooling – Attaining a Queensland Certificate of Education and Choosing a Path; The Senior Commitment
Session 3: Career Exploration – Course Information; Career-based Planning including Vocational Educational and Training/TAFE Opportunities; Peer Panel Q & A
Session 4: Next Steps: Charting your Path, first round of subject selections, and preparing for your SET Plan Meeting.
This is a compulsory school day in which all Year 10 students must be involved. The Senior Schooling Team has spent a significant amount of time developing the resources and program for the day. It is imperative that every student attends these sessions, whether they intend to continue at Foxwell State Secondary College beyond Year 10 or not, to ensure that they are provided with the most helpful and expert advice and support in Charting their Path.
All students will meet at the Sports Performance Hall at 8.40am so that we can begin by 8.45am sharp. All sessions and break times will follow the usual day structure.
Students are required to dress in Formal Uniform and to bring with them the following items:
- Pens
- A Fully-charged iPad
- Copies of/access to research they may have already done, information, planning etc. regarding their career or pathway planning
- A filled water bottle
We look forward to sharing this valuable and important day with your student as we move towards our SET Planning Meetings from 29 July 2024. More information regarding these meetings will be issued by next Friday.
