School operations
As Foxwell State Secondary College is in one of the 11 affected LGAs we will remain open for students of essential workers or vulnerable children ONLY. We have been working with Queensland Health and taking advice from the Chief Health Officer about our operating procedures. Our school will commence our Continuity of Learning Program from Tuesday 3rd August for all students. Details about this program will be provided later in this Bulletin.
Based on the changing nature of the Delta strain, it is a requirement that any student who must attend our school (because their parent/s are essential workers and cannot arrange alternate supervision) will be supervised within groups with a maximum of ten students to minimise any potential health risks. These groups of ten students will not be able to interact with other students at any point of the school day, including lunch breaks. As this is a significant change to our normal procedures, and even last year’s remote learning procedures, we ask that students are made aware of this before they come to school. There will be no access to play equipment or lunch time activities. All students will be required to be seated in a designated location for their lesson and their break times. Staff will be available to support these students to access their Continuity of Learning Program, as all learning will be online only. Normal timetabled lessons and explicit teaching will not occur. It is now directive from the Director General of Education for staff to facilitate remote learning from home and not be on the school site. We will have minimal numbers of staff on site to supervise the small number of students who must attend. School staff will be accessible from 9am to 3pm via our online platforms which will be detailed further in this Bulletin.
If you are an essential worker and your child cannot be supervised and therefore will be attending our school site, you are required to call the school office tomorrow to advise us so that we have the necessary staff available to supervise your child.
A reminder that the canteen and uniform shop will not be open and the school will only be open from 8.15 to 3pm. The school gates will be closed from these times and no supervision available. Face masks must be worn at all times.
Of course this is not what we hoped for our students but we need to put the safety of all members of our community as our priority. Please follow the details below that explain how to communicate with school staff.
Daily attendance will be taken for those students on campus only.
For students not on campus, parents and carers will receive a daily sms confirming that your child is engaging in learning from home. Please do not respond to this sms unless your child should be on campus. The message will read:
"FSSC advises that in line with current health advice, your student/s is not on site today and is being recorded as engaging in learning from home. No reply is required from you, unless you believe your student should be present on site at Foxwell SSC today. If your student is unwell and will not be participating in oline learning email admin@foxwellssc.eq.edu.au."
Continuity of Learning Program
From Tuesday 3rd August our Continuity of Learning Program will commence and students will access curriculum in the learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities.
Curriculum will be released daily via the SeeSaw platform in accordance with the following schedule.
At this time, students will also have the opportunity to access optional learning experiences related to the Arts, Japanese, Technologies, Wellbeing (Flourish) and Physical Activity (Foxwellness).
Students are expected to attend 1 x online face-to-face Check In lesson each day with a timetabled teacher via the platform Microsoft Teams. This will officially commence from Wednesday 4th August. The schedule of Check In lessons will be released to families tomorrow.
On Tuesday 3rd August, teachers will provide an opportunity for students to test accessibilty and functionality of the Microsoft Teams platform. Further information about this test session will be issued to students in their Seesaw classes by their scheduled Tuesday Check In teacher. Tuesday's scheduled Check In lessons are as follows. Students are asked to check their timetable to align their class code with the schedule information.
Further information about how to access SeeSaw, Microsoft Teams and other platforms used during this time follows.
While curriculum materials will be released in line with the above outlined school expectations, the timing of engagement in learning, other than for the daily timetabled online lesson, is at the discretion of families.
Online Learning Curriculum has been developed progressively for each learning area, and as such students are required to complete learning in the sequential order. For example, a student should not move on to lesson 2 without having completed lesson 1.
We understand that from time to time parents, carers and students may need to contact a member of our school for additional support. While our online platforms remain our first point of contact for curriculum and subject specific matters, below are listed other additional support contact email addresses.
