This week we commenced our first enrolment interviews for 2021 and hosted the first of our 2021 Information Evenings and Principal Tours.
It has filled me with great pride to hear the positive feedback from our future families. They have commented positively on the school culture, our high expectations, our firm stance for kindness and against bullying, and their observations of the positive interactions between staff and students.
Of course they are blown away by our world class facilities, but these are just buildings, if the culture and programs aren’t there to support them.
I have also received many lovely emails and calls from members of the local community and interested parents who have heard positive stories whilst out and about in our local community.
As a result, we have significant interest from families wishing to transfer to our school in Semester 2 2020 or for Year 7 and 8 in 2021.
We truly appreciate the way that our parents, students and staff are sharing positive feedback and stories about our school to their friends and acquaintances.
Recently I was asked to write an article that provided some insight into the beginning of the Foxwell State Secondary College story. This was named The First 125 Hours, as at the end of our first 125 hours, we had a visit from world renowned educational consultants and writers from Seattle in the US, who spent the day observing what education looked like for the students of Foxwell.

As part of Project 4209, which is our community focused program to enhance the Coomera and surrounding areas, this week we will be releasing our #KindnessRocks4209.
These beautiful rocks were decorated by our students on their Connection Day with pictures and messages of kindness and hope.
These decorated and lacquered rocks will have instructions on them for local families to take a picture with the rock to share on our Kindnessrocks4209 event page which is attached to our school Facebook page.
I am sure you will see lots of these rocks around the local community over the coming weeks and months.

Until next week.

Last week, our students, through their Healthy World lessons, engaged in an egg drop challenge. Students had lots of fun whilst also developing their ability to collaborate in small groups to design, construct and test the effectiveness of a contraption. The goal was to design a contraption that would house and protect an egg when dropped from our Level 1 veranda. The eggs and contraptions which survived the drop from our Level 1 veranda, progressed to our Level 2 veranda. I am proud to say we had a number of contraptions designed and built that exceeded the original goal and successfully dropped an egg in its contraption from Level 2, with the egg surviving the fall, unbroken!
Knowledge of individual character strengths were utilised in order to allocate group roles and responsibilities. In many classes, students were allocated to groups thus encouraging students to collaborate with other young people they may not normally work with.
Students learnt valuable communication skills and were encouraged to practice the skill of assertiveness as active group participants.
Reflections were made and discussed about what communication looked like, sounded like and felt like within each group and discussed how this could be improved upon.
Regardless of whether students’ contraptions protected the egg from breaking, all groups were able to experience positive accomplishment in creating a contraption which could hold an egg and be launched successfully. Students displayed amazing support for each other, cheering each other on, when the egg drop challenge itself was in progress.
Well done to all students and teachers for demonstrating our Spirit values of: Perseverance, Integrity, Teamwork, Inclusivity and Respect and Responsibility as they worked through this collaborative design challenge last week.
Parents and Caregivers are invited to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally.
Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can easily be completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.

As per the Education Department’s guidelines which are in keeping with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions to Stage 3, we will continue organising sports activities at school, whilst ensuring shared equipment is sanitised before and after use. We will remain vigilant in promoting good hand hygiene with students and staff.
In addition to school-based sporting activities, Queensland State School inter-school sport and representative school sport (both indoor and outdoor) will begin a staged reintroduction in Term 3, from 10 July 2020.
Inter-school and representative sport will run across the next semester with a selection of sports being offered to students. It is unfortunate that not all sports will be offered however there will be a diverse range of opportunities for students to be involved in. Students, who had been selected earlier this year and their sport is going ahead in the revised program, should have already received an email notification from South Coast School Sport.
Below are some important links to relevant websites regarding the reintroduction of school sport in QLD.

Bicycle Pump Station now available
This week, Foxwell State Secondary College, proudly took ownership of a Bicycle Pump Station. This has been installed in our bike shed and is intended to support students in maintaining appropriate air pressure in their bicycle tyres thus raising safety levels as students ride to and from school.
A big thank you to Gold Coast City Council, Active School Travel, for supplying this for our students.
Congratulations to those students who already make healthy choices and ride, walk, scooter, carpool or take the bus to school each day.
These choices are not only good for our students’ health and wellbeing but also the environment and our community.
