Today we held our inaugural Foxwell State Secondary College Athletics Carnival at Griffith University. I would like to offer my congratulations and gratitude to everyone who helped to ensure the day was the incredible success that it was! From the organisation of the event, to the preparation of students for events, to the cheering on of students - it all went smoothly.
The weather was perfect and partnered with the high spirits of staff, students, and parents. Participation in events, across the board, was very high. Students demonstrated our SPIRIT values beautifully, showing their perseverance and detemination on and off the field in both official events and novelty events.
Student energy and participation was incredibly high, with a number of personal bests set, and of course first time school records! We look forward to sharing the results of the day with our school community at our Celebration Assembly in Week 10.

This week we celebrated School Cleaners’ Day. Our dedicated Cleaning Team play an important role in keeping our beautiful facility clean and safe for our students. We appreciate and thank them for their hard work and commitment to Foxwell!
Over the course of Term 2, students have delved into history and have explored people, events and civilisations in which they developed a keen interest. It has been delightful to witness our students having deep conversations with their peers and genuinely being excited about what their research has taught them.
It is our great pleasure to invite our school community to attend our Night at the Museum, a Physical World celebration of Year 7 work! On this evening students will showcase their findings in a variety of different means.
On Tuesday we will welcome award-winning journalist, commentator and author Madonna King to our school for a FREE EVENT. Madonna King is the author of Being 14 and Fathers and Daughters and will share with us on the evening what your daughter needs to know about her shift from child to teenager - how she feels, what she thinks, what worries her and what you can do to help.
Parents and interested community members are invited and encouraged to join us to hear from Madonna about parenting and what she has learned through her extensive research for her best selling books, ‘Ten-Ager’ and ‘Being 14’.
Here is a glimpse of the insights she will be sharing on Friendship.
Visit the below link to book your seat at this FREE EVENT to be held next Tuesday 22nd June at 6pm in Foxwell State Secondary College's Lecture Theatre.

Foxwell SSC Arts and Science staff had the privilege to work with some talented and eager Year 6 students from Coomera Rivers SS over the last two weeks, making a wonderful community connection between our schools.
Senior students (Yr 6) elected to engage in a wonderful science workshop lead by Mrs Suni Moraes where students investigated acids, bases and neutralisation reactions.
Experienced senior teachers, Mrs Collette Wilson and Mrs Cara McLennan ran a physical collage drama workshop where students considered their predictions about high school through freeze frames, expression and written text.
Dance specialist, Mrs Lauren Riches engaged a group of high-energy students in a dance workshop where they explored how choreographic devices are applied to movement, by learning a short hip-hop routine.
Head of Department, Mrs Cara McLennan finalised our visit with a drawing workshop which saw students design both digital and pencil works from given stimulus.
We look forward to our continued collaborations with Coomera Rivers SS.

TERM 2 Week 9 2021
Years 7 and 8 have been working diligently towards completing their assessment pieces and now they are finished they have time to really enjoy the science labs. Some practicals in the laboratory have occurred and more are planned for next week. These practicals will consolidate students’ learning from the term. Here are just a few of examples:
Year 7
Students looked at the concept of density using skittles (YUM!) which they used to make a rainbow of liquid. It was so pretty but students needed a steady hand to get a really good rainbow effect. Students learned measuring skills by using measuring cylinders and developed pipetting and dispensing skills.

Year 8
Waterproof boat building to see who can make the fastest boat using an elastic band to power the vehicle has been the focus for Year 8s. This was fun to see and most students created a sea-faring boat. One group designed their boat with a dinosaur using the water-proof tape. Not sure if it went faster, but it did look fantastic as it motored away.

WATCH THIS SPACE!
The students in ALP and STEM are preparing for their Wonders of Science presentations and have come up with all sorts of ideas and wonderful experiments to trial for these presentations.
They have been looking at separation techniques and devising very interesting experiments. Some are looking at separating molecules through gel electrophoresis, or terrariums. Other students have been playing with charges and creating new hairstyles NOTE: no children were harmed in this experiment, although their hair needed to be restyled afterwards. This is just a small representation of these ideas below with a sneak peek in pictures before these presentations are finalised.

It isn’t only the students who love science. The teachers also get into the act when possible. The Head of Physical World, Nahdia McClymont assisted one of our Deputy Principals, Zana Schroeder to have a ‘play’. Ms McClymont taught Ms Schroeder about the neutralisation process through mixing acids and bases.
AFL
This week our extra-curricular AFL program was capped off by a behind the scenes tour of Metricon stadium, home of the Gold Coast Suns. Students were able to step into the shoes of AFL & AFLW athletes, exploring the high performance training facilities, the coaches' box, locker rooms and more. Student were also gifted family passes for this week’s Suns match! We are so thankful for this relationship with the Gold Coast Suns, where we can provide once in a lifetime experiences like this for our students.
Rugby League
We are so proud to announce that our Rugby League team, under the coaching excellence of Mr Jesse Way, has played their way to the top in the Titans Schools League competition this term. They will be playing off in a Grand Final after school this coming Monday at Bill Norris Oval, Beenleigh. As soon as we receive details of game time we will share with you all as we know the boys would love to have your support at the fields.
Athletics
Today we held our 2021 Athletics Carnival which we hope was enjoyed by all. More details of the standout performances will be announced in future newsletters, as our overall winners cannot yet be determined! Week 10 lunchtimes will play host to the 800m, 1500m and Javelin events for all ages, with specific details posted to our Student SharePoint.
Which house will take out our first ever Athletics Carnival?
Whose performances will land their names in the Foxwell SSC Athletics Record books??
All to be revealed!
Clinic with Scott McDonald
Monday we have a fantastic opportunity for our students to enjoy a FREE clinic provided by A-League player (and former Socceroo), Scott McDonald. All students are invited to attend but as we need to confirm numbers, students are asked to register their interest by emailing Mrs Bullock at emgil0@eq.edu.au
All Schools Touch trials.

Container challenge
Good luck to all the students who have entered this competition, we thank both you and our community members for your contribution.
The winners will be announced on Monday morning at our morning tea.
The challenge has hopefully raised awareness for our students of the value of recycling. A purple recycling bin will remain on school grounds outside the canteen for students to continue to place their poppers and empty bottles into so these are recycled and not sent off for landfill. Thank you students for continuing to use this bin.

2021 Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In Week 9 & 10 of this term, students will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey. Students will be sent an email link to the survey, which they will complete during one of their Healthy World lessons.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important to your child’s life at school. The Department and the College are looking at ways to collect information on these important areas so we can support our students in the best way possible.
The QEW Survey is designed to measure how state school students view their wellbeing and engagement.
Results from this survey will tell us about students’ levels of wellbeing and engagement. This information will allow us to better support our students and meet their needs.
Please refer to the attached document for further information. If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact Victoria Leadbeatter, Head of Inclusion, on vlead1@eq.edu.au
